Prep time: 8 minutes
Cook time: 12 minutes
Serves 4
1/2 cup brown sugar
11/2 cups cooking sherry or red wine
1/2 cup water
1 tsp. baking spice or 1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. lemon juice
4 pears, peeled, sliced in half lengthwise, and cored
Confectioner's sugar as garnish
Combine sugar, sherry, water, spice, and lemon juice in a saucepan and heat to a simmer. Add pears, and simmer for 12 minutes or until pears are tender. Turn off the heat, and allow fruit to cool in its juices. Place two halves on each plate, spoon a bit of sauce over, and sprinkle with confectioner's sugar. (If you really like juice, serve in bowls and distribute liquid with pears).
